The San Diego area has many great places to live and Kensington is no exception. This area is known for beautiful architecture, much of which is comprised of California Spanish-style single family homes. Here, the quiet streets wind through picturesque neighborhoods along the southeast edge of Mission Valley. The lawns are immaculate, the people are friendly, and the atmosphere is charming. Further, Kensington is surrounded by chaparral canyons, has stunning views of the valley, and benefits from cooler ocean breezes out of the west.
The main road, Adams Avenue, makes up the main business district of Kensington and is highlighted by a classic neon sign that goes over the roadway. The neighborhood is very walking friendly - making it easy to admire homes and visit the various stores and restaurants that line Adams Avenue while on foot. One historic home in the area is The Lindstrom House which was designed by famed architect Cliff May - the mind that came up with the California ranch style house. Today it is a National Historic Landmark. Another notable home is the Charles "Dick" Bowman House that was designed with the help of master architect Richard Requa. Kensington also has many events throughout the year for area residents to enjoy. Two of the larger happenings are the Adams Avenue Street Fair and the Art Around Adams 2 mile walk that includes live music. Further, the new addition of the Kensington Commons adds a beautiful 34-apartment complex building to the area. The structure has 10,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level which includes tenants like Stehly Farms Market, The UPS Store, and Pacific Dental Services.
