La Mesa is a gorgeous place that is bordered by San Diego to the north and west, Spring Valley and Lemon Grove to the south, and El Cajon on the east. This is an outstanding area to live in due to the wonderful weather, great scenery, and plethora of things to do. Every Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM there is a Farmers Market at La Mesa Civic Center that has been recognized for having some of the best produce in Southern California. Here you can also buy various meats, oils, cheeses, flowers, and hot and ready to eat food. Another neat feature here is the La Mesa Walkway of the Stars. This pedestrian walkway is in an urban park in La Mesa. This place recognizes La Mesa’s great volunteer workers who have given over 10,000 hours of service to the community. Some events that take place in the city over the year include: the Flag Day Parade, Oktoberfest, the Back to the 50s Car Show, Christmas in the Village, and the Antique Street Fair.
When you want to go shopping, just head over to the Grossmont Center outdoor shopping mall. There are over 100 stores and services located here, including highlights like: Sports Authority, Macy’s, Target, Barnes & Noble, and Cost Plus World Market. There is also a movie theater here that is perfect for catching a movie with friends, family, or that special someone. Some famous people who have called La Mesa home include Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder, NBA player Bill Walton, NFL quarterback Alex Smith, actor Dennis Hopper, and Megadeth singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine.
