La Jolla Nicknamed the "Jewel City"

Nicknamed the "Jewel City," La Jolla is a wonderful, wealthy neighborhood in San Diego, California. Marked by it's hilly, seaside setting and meandering coastline, La Jolla has beautiful, high-end homes, a wide variety of businesses, and plenty of entertaining things to do. The weather here is mild - with the average daily temperature being 70.5°F. In total, there are 16 distinct neighborhoods found within La Jolla, many of which offer stunning coastal views. In 2008 and 2009 the city had the highest home prices in the nation when comparing the cost of a four-bedroom homes in communities nationwide. Downtown La Jolla is known for its boutiques, upscale restaurants, hotels, jewelry stores, and fun events. The Museum of Contemporary Art is also a big draw for those looking to see post-1950 European and American paintings, sculptures, visual design, and more. Other fun places to go include the Birch Aquarium and La Jolla Playhouse. Whether you're into surfing, sunbathing, swimming, marine life watching, kayaking, snorkeling, or other beach activities - La Jolla has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Experienced surfers are typically found at Windansea Beach, while beginners should consider honing their skills at La Jolla Shores Beach. Kellogg Park is a great, family-friendly green space for picnics - tossing a football, frisbee, or baseball - reading, or just relaxing after a day at the beach. If you are feeling more adventurous, go to Torry Pines Gliderport to try some paragliding or hang gliding - or just watch daredevils take flight with the Pacific as a picturesque backdrop. Also, golfers will love the Torrey Pines Golf Course which overlooks the ocean and hosts major professional golf tournaments from time to time. The La Jolla Open Aire Market is a wonderful place to visit every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM where you can purchase organic fruits and vegetables, freshly baked bread, gorgeous flowers, and other fresh foods. There are also many food vendors with a plethora of fare to indulge in while here. Further, the summer concerts along the seaside at Ellen Browning Scripps Parks are the perfect free entertainment to enjoy. They take place on Sunday afternoons from July through Labor Day between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM and there are concessions to enjoy as well.
